Dr. Nouri completed a combined undergraduate and medical education program at Boston University in 1993, and went on to pursue a dermatology residency at the University of Miami. He completed his procedural dermatology fellowship in Mohs Micrographic Surgery, Dermatologic, Laser, and Cosmetic Surgery at New York University. As an alternative to the executive MBA, he took part in the Program for Leadership Development (PLD) at Harvard Business School. He was one of four in the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine to be selected to complete an eight-month Physician Leadership Academy program in South Florida. The AAD Advanced Leadership Program through the American Academy of Dermatology, which he also completed in 2017, focused on physician leadership and communication. He completed a health MBA program in 2019 at Herbert Business School, University of Miami.
Currently, Dr. Nouri serves as the editor-in-chief of the Lasers in Medical Science journal and the editor of 12 well-known textbooks: Techniques in Dermatologic Surgery (Elsevier, 2003), Skin Cancer (McGraw Hill, 2008), Complications in Dermatologic Surgery (Elsevier, 2008), Lasers in Dermatology and Medicine (Springer, 2011), Mohs Micrographic Surgery (Springer, 2012), Dermatologic Surgery: Step by Step (Blackwell Willey, 2012) and Laser Dermatology Handbook (Springer 2014), Beautiful skin: A Dermatologist’s Guide to a Younger-Looking You (Nova, 2015), “two volumes text book on “Laser in Dermatology and Medicine 2nd Edition, volume 1: Dermatologic Applications, Volume 2: Dental and Medical Applications (Springer 2018), Pediatric Dermatologic Surgery (Wiley 2019)” and Atlas of Lasers and Lights in Dermatology (Springer 2020). He is the author of more than 330 peer-reviewed scientific articles, more than 160 book chapters, and many other publications. Since 1999, he has been an invited speaker, moderator, and presenter more than 690 times at national and international meetings. His top presentations topics are: Business of Medicine and lasers for various indications. He also serves in editorial roles, including editor of the Cells to Surgery Quiz Section of the Journal Investigative Dermatology, Section Editor for Dermatologic Surgery section of the International Journal of Dermatology, and the surgical advisory board for JAMA Dermatology, among others. His study regarding behavioral analysis on sun safety practices for infants received national attention from the media. He has completed and performed many clinical research trials in the areas of skin imaging, lasers for treatment of scars, lasers for treatment of skin cancers, attempting to define the peak absorption of basal cell carcinomas, treatment of acute wounds with artificial skins and lights, Tele-dermatology etc. He has collaborated with basic scientists in the department of dermatology in a number of translational studies looking for markers in non-melanoma skin cancers as well with other schools within University of Miami such as School of Engineering and Business school on looking at better clinical tools and ways to improve and deliver health care. He is currently part of committees and working on multiple projects regarding diversity, inclusion, and equity within dermatology, Mohs micrographic surgery as well as Lasers and Devices.
As a member of the UM staff, one of his several contributions is being Director of the Graduate Education Specialty Training Program for the Department of Dermatology and Cutaneous Surgery since 2004. Besides his leadership roles within Miami, he has also held various leadership roles for the Florida Society of Dermatologic Surgeons (Board of Director, Secretary-Treasurer, Vice-President, and President), Florida Society of Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery (Board of Director), American Society of Dermatologic Surgery (past program Co-Chairman of mastery of lasers course), American College of Mohs Surgery, the American Society of Lasers in Medicine and Surgery, and the International Society of Dermatology (previous vice-president and previous co-chairman for continental meetings as well as current chair of regional meetings).
Dr. Nouri has been honored by being the Valedictorian of University of Miami 2019, Health MBA Cohort, Miami Herbert Business School, University of Miami, 2020 Lifetime member of Beta Gamma Sigma International Business Honor Society (highest recognition for business students), 2019 IAMA Outstanding Academic Achievement Award in Medical Science, 2018 Distinguished Alumni Award from Boston University School of Medicine, Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, American Dermatological Association, Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society, Castle Connolly, U.S. News America's Top Doctors, Best Doctors in America, Surgeon of the Year for the Florida Society of Dermatologic Surgery, Jaime Battan Compassionate patient care award from University of Miami Department of Dermatology, Physician of the Quarter for UMHC/Sylvester-Cancer Center, and Excellence in International Patient Care and Outreach from the Florida Society of Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery.
