Kanade Shinkai is a faculty member of the UCSF Department of Dermatology and is a full professor of dermatology. She specializes in medical dermatology and inpatient dermatology consults. She is passionate about medical education and has previously served as residency program director and Vice Chair of Education at UCSF; she now serves as the Vice Chair of Academic Affairs for the department. She has served as the editor-in-chief of JAMA Dermatology since July 2018.
